handwriting font for you!!!!!

y’all. I started lettering 30 years ago…my favorite gals to watch letter or paint things back then were, Carol Hicks Bolton and Susan Maniscalco! We would visit Carol’s store, Homestead, in Fredericksburg and Susan’s tin art covered the walls. I still have a wall in my house!! The look was different, and I loved the eclecticness…is that even a word?? Our family would visit The Bolton’s beach house, and I loved her style!! Carol had written words all around the edges of the ceiling, quotes, scripture, whatever! I began to practice my writing and began to create my own style, I lettered on people’s walls, made cards, and always heard, “you should sell your font!!!” well guys, guess what?!?!?! the time has come, my font is available to you for download! you get 3 different styles for $35. you can use it forever, we just ask that you don’t start mass producing things like t-shirts, prints, or wall art for retail or to hobby lobby, target, or Kirklands! you get the idea!! if you want to partner up, we can do that!!! but, y’all enjoy.

i’m so excited to share this with y’all!!!! get them here!!

word for 2020...REFINE

My word for 2020—

REFINE.  really God?  that seems like a scary word.  like, i’m fine God.  i don’t need anymore refining, please!!!  are you sure?  don’t you think I’ve had enough pruning??

yep, He’s sure.  keep refining my words, that means less cussing.  argh.  refining what I eat.  refining my time to create margin for exercise, and for Him to move.

keep refining the areas of my life that I live in fear and guilt.  fear of hurting others feelings when God is pushing me to hold them accountable, and speak truth.  guilt of the life I get to live.  He isn’t guilting me, He gave it to me.

in the fire, He is standing with me.  in the heat, and the flames.  He never leaves me in the refining.  He is the fire.

i’m taking the things i have learned, and continue to put a fresh spin on it.  i don’t want to create something new, I want to keep refining what I know.  taking my skills, passion and creativity to do what comes naturally, following my heart, that will be the new thing He is doing.  original authentic creation in this season.  New wine into a new wineskin.

the desires He has placed in my heart this year are to grow deeper in Him, and His word.  keep refining to know His best.  i want to share Him with the world, or anyone that will listen to me.

here’s my verse of the year too, "But someone will say, 'You have faith; I have deeds. ' Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds." James 2:18.  i’m ready, my hands are holding on tight.

what is your word?

Eat. Pie. Love 52 week illustrated devotional

y’all! it’s almost march 3rd, 2020! I only have had the date, march 3rd, on my mind for the day my book comes out, not 2020. when I was talking about my word for 2020 I realized, whoa, my book comes out in a new decade. and, most of the devotions were written from my life experiences in the previous decade.

for years I heard, you should write a book and I would say, “yes, I want to!” or, “ya, ya, ya, I know.” of course, the thought of writing my story down seemed overwhelming, and not what God had in mind. I had been doodling downloads from God for a long time, and they inspired this book. take the doodle, and then write the devotion to go alongside it, and throw in some sweet and savory recipes. my word for 2019 was, still. and, I struggled with being still. I saw productivity as doing physical things or actual deeds, I didn’t see being still with Jesus as being productive or that writing a book was even productive. I signed my contract with the publisher in November of 2018 and thought, “i’ve got plenty of time, it’s only 52 devotions. if I write this many per day i’ll be done in no time at all!” well, June 1st of 2019, the deadline, was looming and God had to put me down, like nearly break my ankle, for me to be still. I started writing from that point on. I went away, and would write in quiet places, where there weren’t daily deeds that I felt I had to do. There were times that I don’t remember what I wrote, because I didn’t write the words, God truly used me as a vessel for the words. These words are written from my heart, the stories where God gave grace upon grace, and reconciled my soul. Of course pie has been a common denominator in most of my relationships, and stories, so we had to throw some recipes in too!

I hope that this book meets you exactly where you are on your walk and brings you closer to Jesus. That it reminds you that you have done such hard things, that you can do hard things, that you can set boundaries, that you can love anyways. I want it to be a book that daily reminds you of how our Father loves you, sees you and created you on purpose. You are so loved. There is nothing you can do to change His love for you.

You can pre-order it now over on Amazon, and when you do, you can head over to Broadstreet Publishing and get lots of freebies that I created just for you!!!!

and, if you are interested in ordering, Eat. Pie. Love, for your store, email orders@broadstreetpublishing.com

love y’all!!! so much anticipation and hope for 2020!!

Rest, Restore, Roar

I don’t know about y’all, but being intentional to carve out time is not easy. if I don’t do it in the morning, I will let the day go by, then two days, and then three. by day four I am razzled, all up in a tizzy, and my fuse is very short. I have no problem saying yes, and another yes and another and then I'm short with my people, the ones I need to pour into daily.

I know that I have to stop, and be still so I can hear Him speak to me. How can I listen when I always have the tv on, music, a podcast or doing everything to escape reality?!? So, that’s where Rest, Restore, Roar comes in, intentional time carved out to sit with Jesus, read, meal plan, take a nap, sit and be still, journal, whatever your soul needs. A time to rest and restore so you can go out and roar!!

All Things Acres from 4pm-7pm on the FIRST SUNDAY of the MONTH. to keep up, sign up for our newsletter here or check out the event page here.

Ps we always have pie and coffee. The cost is free to come, coffee and water are free, pie is $5

How to make a Royers pie

How to make a ROYERS PIE!!!

what I hear the most about making a pie is how the crust is scary or that it doesn’t look good. or that grandma or mama said it had to be done this way, but what if it didn’t? wouldn’t it still be amazing because you made it? so, here’s some simple guidelines and a recipe, now go bake that pie anyways!!

  1. don’t be scared

  2. it doesn't have to be perfect

  3. do it with lots of love and joy

  4. make more than one

  5. get ice cream

  6. gather friends around the table and share together

  7. do it again

this one.  it’s a sleeper on the menu, but it’s so good!! sweet with a bit of tartness.  yes, we use frozen rhubarb.  nobody got time to peel rhubarb.  and, let’s be honest.  we live in texas, rhubarb can’t survive.

FILLING

4 cups of frozen rhubarb pieces

3 cups of frozen strawberries

1 cup sugar

1/2 cups of flour

1 TBSP melted butter

1 tsp of lemon juice

TOPPING

1 cup brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1 cup old fashioned oats…not quick

1/2 cup flour

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp of nutmeg

6 TBSPS melted butter

combine all ingredients.

combine fruit in large pan.  cook ’til turns to natural color.  or doesn’t look frozen.  add remaining ingredients and cook ’til thick.  stirring constantly.  pour into 10″ unbaked pie shell.  top with crumble topping and bake for 45 mins at 350.

bless,

tara

8 years later...encouragement in the waiting.

hey friend,

I want to encourage you in the waiting. over 8 years ago we moved our commercial pie baking kitchen to giddings texas. see the cafe was too small to keep up and we had to out source our pies to other companies to make our pie shells, mail order and dense pies. we learned so much in this. we would drive to Waller and Houston to pick the pies up weekly. when something didn’t get made, we couldn’t do anything about it. when it wasn’t right, we would have to be without product. the time came for us to take out the middle man and steward this gift God had given us. the pies are what drive the people to our businesses and a chance for us to shine Jesus. the pies are a vessel of love.

anyways, rick and i were talking to a close family friend and customer and we asked, “if you have any real estate, we need a space to bake our pies.” well, he quickly responded, “actually, I do.” He was kind enough to outfit the building for us and buy all the equipment and let us stay there for 2 years, rent free. that was 8 years ago. it was a beautiful partnership. we had high hopes. we wanted to grow the wholesale business, I had plans to drive there often and create new product. that never happened. what happened was better. I see that now. a beautiful space was created, systems were built and the pie business continued to grow in round top.

now we have moved that space to brenham, 5 minutes from our home. I go weekly to bake. it feels like home. it feels so right. I can bake up an idea and try new things. our wholesale business is growing too. it doesn’t happen over night, but if it’s His will, it will happen. keep showing up through the waiting, the trials and disappointments, He is faithful.

A story of God's fairytale

My dad and I haven't always had the vision of what I thought a daughter/father relationship should be. I didn't climb in his lap when I scrapped my knee or call him to go to dinner and a movie. Our relationship was wrapped up in business, and we hide everything behind the facade of a building. We were good at making it look great on the outside, but on the inside, we were being torn apart. We showed up to work every day, and did our jobs, continuing to build up walls to protect our feelings. We didn't know how to have a business and personal relationship. Recently, I asked myself what the hardest part of our relationship was? There are a few things. First, I dreamed of a relationship that came from the movies or a book, remember, I didn't have Instagram to scroll and see pictures. Thank the LORD! Of course, those relationships aren't real. Second, I didn't want to be in the middle anymore. I didn't want to be the one that had to make decisions and hurt anyone's feelings. I was a, and that didn't solve anything. I did all I could to make everything okay, even if it was for a moment. Third, everyone has hopes and dreams, and when you put two visionaries in the same spot, who haven't learned how to communicate in truth out of love, or how to set proper boundaries, you don't get very far.

I asked my dad the same question, and this was his response, "The hardest thing about our relationship is that it had been built around the café. The café was the center point or always in the middle of our relationship. The café came first, and all our interactions dealt with work. Rarely did we have a conversation that wasn't about the café even if we had a day off. This, in turn, prevented our relationship to grow …. This had nothing to do with you, but it had everything to do with me as I viewed my relationships with everyone in the family. My behavior was so wrong, selfish, and damaging to you and the fam! I am so sorry for allowing the café to create a wall between the family and thus prevented the relationship to grow with you, especially mom and the, of course, the boys!!! I again let work get in the way of my growing up with my fam….. another set of lost years!" I know how hard it was for my dad to put this in words, but I'm so proud of him and how far we have come together!! I sincerely hope he knows that he is loved, forgiven, and covered in love. It's never too late to move forward from those dreams that you want.

Now, let's fast forward. What's the best part of our relationship? From my perspective, through much hard, personal soul work and the grace of God, our bond has been redeemed. We have a relationship that is built on a strong foundation, past experiences we have learned from and not stayed stuck. We talk often, cheer each other on, share a meal, and go to the movies together. It's such a fantastic story of healing.

Here are my dad's thoughts on the best part of our relationship. The best thing amid this mess was being able to work with you knowing you had seen the problem and solved it. You were so much stale control… you are rock!

And moving forward to today….you and I have a very grounded relationship that enables us to reach out to each other for support, love, & comfort. I am so proud of what you are, allowing God to do in your daily life and walk with Him. Your insights and the ability to put to text and art is such a God giving gift that you are allowing Him to have full control! That is so awesome!!! So much pride and greater love, dad!!

I cried when I received his part of the questions — such a miracle. Healing can happen. We serve a mighty God, whom we have a rich history. So, if you don't see the hope or possibility, know it is possible. Know it does happen, move over, and let God take control of the relationship. Ask Him to work a miracle and ask Him to show you what you need to do. See the fairytale He is writing.

tara and bud

Summer, swimsuits, body image and my favorite fluff recipe

hey y’all!! i’m already dreading the Texas humidity and it’s only May. Yesterday it was a high of 88, but felt like 98. We do this every year, we hope for Spring and hope it lingers into June. It usually doesn’t and my thoughts go straight to October, hurry up. Get here!! I didn’t love Summers because I started working early in life, and my weeks and weekends were filled with waiting on tables. I let that be a damaged narrative for a very long time. I let the cafe stop me from doing because I lived in guilt of, “I have to be here and I want to please my family.” I let it become my identity at an early age. I was also consumed with my body image and wouldn’t wear shorts or sleeve less shirts. I was so worried about what everyone else thought and I would cover myself up. I was literally dying from the suffocation of the lie and all the clothing. I only wore swimsuits that sucked it all in, were black and my granny could borrow. I then covered that up with shorts and a shirt. I remember the day. I was running across 237 to the cafe from our house. A boy a year older than me yelled from the gas station, “look at that fat F#@( run.” or “'i’d date you if you were skinnier.” That was 30 years ago and I remember those words like it was yesterday. The words don’t sting so much anymore as I’ve come to learn that my size doesn’t make me who I am on the inside. I love myself for me. I love myself because God created me and He gave me free will to eat ice cream with my kiddos. He’s also given me free will to make healthier choices, and I have. I now wear the cutest red and white polka dot tankini and get the craziest amount of compliments. Those are the words I remember now. Oh my goodness! You look precious. In the end, that’s all that matters. That I know what my Father thinks of me and I’m precious in His eyes.

Now to my favorite summer treat, because let’s be real, nobody turns the oven on in Texas during July. And, the memories of this treat bring me back to simpler times around the dinner table with my family. It doesn't have to be fancy to make a memory…

Pistacho Fluff

1 large container of Cool Whip, don’t skimp and get the off brand

1 large box of Instant Jello Pistachio Pudding

1 large can of Crushed Pineapple…don’t get the chunks

Mix it all together, chill for an hour & eat the whole bowl!!

happpie Cinco-de PIE-o

PIE TACOS AND CHALUPAS!?

pie crust rolled in butter, cinnamon & sugar then fried?! filled with your favorite pie filling and cream?! yes, PLEASE!!!

ok, first up, a flaky pie crust. this is the cafe’s original pie crust & makes 3# of pie dough, which will yield about 20 tacos!

pre-heat oven 350

5 cups of flour

2 cups of crisco

1 cup of water

1 tsp salt

add salt to water and set aside. combine flour and crisco and bowl, cut in with fork or pastry cutter, until crumbly. add liquid and begin to work into flour with hands. don’t over work the dough, it should feel soft and not stick to hands. there will be extra flour in the bottom, and that’s ok! divide into 3 equal dough balls.

now to cut the tacos…

flour counter and roll one dough ball out until about the thickness of a homemade tortilla. cut about 6-6” circles with each dough ball. place on non stick cookie sheet and par bake for about 15 mins. let cool.

while the crust is baking, make your favorite filling…here’s one I love…blackberry or dewberry

9 cups of blackberries

1 1/2 cups of sugar

3 tsps of vanilla

zest of 2 lemons

1 cup of flour

combine all but flour in sauce pan and bring to a boil, add flour and stir until the flour dissolves and filling thickens. set aside.

fry the tacos…

fill frying pan with about an Inch of vegetable oil and bring to a boil. while it’s heating, create a mixture of equal parts of melted butter, cinnamon and sugar, brush on each side of the par baked crust. once oil is hot you can fry each taco like a chalupa or a taco. if you pick a taco, place it in grease and with tongs, slowly fold it and let it form…should take a couple minutes. once fried, place on the backside of a large muffin pan.

je7oTkQJQUODrc9Ot8l%rQ.jpg

ok, of course you need whipped cream or ice cream, here’s my whipped cream recipe!

1 pint of heavy whipping cream

1 cup of powdered sugar

1 tsp of vanilla

1 tsp of cinnamon

whip heavy cream and powdered sugar with hand mixer or kitchen aid ‘til peaks form and thickness is reached. add vanilla and cinnamon and whip until combined! top of tacos with a dash of cinnamon and enjoy!!

my computer is being a mess and won’t let me load the videos and other pics, but i’ll put them in my stories on instagram. y’all enjoy!!!xo,tara

Texas Antiques Weeeeek!! My favorite things & all the details!!

I remember when the original texas antique show was 3 days & at one venue, the rifle hall. emma lee turney started it all. it was always the first full weekend in April or October. we would close on Sunday, after a busy weekend and go see joy jewell and she would lavish us with candles and potpourri. we would walk through the hall and say hi to everyone and find any last minute treasure.

some of those dealers are still setting up today…others have gone to see Jesus face to face. antique week is now 3 weeks long, spans over 20 miles and over 3000 vendors. it is like spring break for adults & a family reunion for us. now, I know i’m not going to share everything about the show because most of the time we never leave our porches, but i’ll send you in the right directions. but, i’m going to share my favorite things about antique week…

of course, I would say eat at royers round top cafe for every meal, because, wellll, there are enough amazing things on the menu!! Eating at the cafe isn’t all about the food, it’s about the whole experience. the oldies music on the porch, the hay bales for resting your tired feet, cold beer & wine on the honor system & my dad still perched in his chair hollering out names of new & old. you walk through the red screen door & you see my brother jb first, he hugs you and says, “hey beautiful”, even when you feel like you are stinky and covered in dirt. or my other brother todd, who gives you a side hug and a sweet smile. of course, there’s shannon, angie, lindsey, kellie, brandy, kelli, holly, payton, they have been there for years, loyal and have & will continue to leave a lasting mark on the history of the cafe. it’s crowded, loud, full of anticipation & you are seated with guests you don’t even know, of course, y’all share a common bond, a love for round top. you order a favorite, like the grilled shrimp Blt on a sourdough hoagie, smokey mesquite mustard, grilled shrimp, thick country bacon, lettuce, tomato & red onions or the shrimp & grits. you know that from the kitchen window, Jamie-len, Audrey, Bobbi & Cyndi & Chica will pour their heart and soul into the meal. it’s a mind game to cook during the show…ticket after ticket keeps popping up, the grill is full of glorious meat & you have 30 minutes to kick out food for 75 people…I loved it. back to the food, you eat all the rolls with herb butter & applesauce butter , lick your plate & are stuffed, but you have to have pie. a buffet of flaky crusts filled with handmade comfort. trish and anne start early & bake all day for the show…200-250 pies a day between royers pie haven and the cafe. anyways, if it’s before 7pm, make sure to head over to royers pie haven for pie, it’s our sister store & a completely different sensory experience. if not, sit a little longer at the cafe & enjoy the pie…remember my dad has a timer if you’re taking too long :).

ps you have to make reservations for dinner, call 979-249-3611 for a seat! lunch is same day priority seating, so call after 10am to get on the list. for all the details, visit here!!

ok, now let’s talk about royers pie haven. open 7:30am to 7pm beginning march 20th! coffee & all the fixings, heehaw savory pie-bacon, egg, cheddar, sausage, onions & jalapeño a herb crust, muffins & scones for breakfast! of course, for lunch we have more savory pies, like chicken margherita pizza pie & tara’s mexican chicken salad wrap…and, pie. lots of pie to sit and rest under the big oak trees, pie to fuel you to keep going! take a break from shopping and join us for live music on April 4th with aubrie lynn music & April 6th with jackie darlene.

haven hours.jpg

let’s chat about the gathering at round top, it’s my favorite night during the show, march 29th at royers pie haven…a gathering of women & men to love, encourage & build each other up. a chance to sit at the feet of Jesus and be filled up spiritually and physically. oh I sure hope you come!! read all about it here!!!

just a few more things…

  1. the new amazing magnolia pearl at the farmloft in round top, off 237…tell Darwa hi! she’s done an amazing job!

  2. of course, go say hi to my sisters at junk gypsy and don’t miss prom at zapp hall (ps they have great music & royers food)…it’s one of the best sight seeing events everrrr…

  3. y’all wonder where I find my favorite dance pants? head on over to spellbound collections, right across from Darwa on 237!

  4. visit the boneyard, it’s a great new field with the barn wood builders!! and, hug one of my favorite sisters, the bake shoppe & cafe!

  5. you know who has the best up to date info about the show? the round top chamber & round top texas life & style, the best guide to the show, when venues open & up to date cancellations for places to stay!

  6. I haven’t been yet, but i’m excited about the opening of Etienne market & Richard Schmidt Jewelry & studio! y’all let me know how amazing it is!!

  7. I love shopping market hill (hug ender, leftovers antiques & Don & Marta Orwig), the fields of blue hills, the arbors & walking the fields of Warrenton. y’all have fun!!!!

  8. Don’t forget to visit to visit true blue home, leftovers antiques too!
